How to Unbrick Moto G – Soft Brick Case

  1. First of all, download the firmware compatible to your device Moto from this page.
  2. Now download and install the RSD lite application [here] in your computer. It’s similar to flash tool as in Xperia devices.
  3. Once it’s installed, open the firmware package and open the .XLM file from package using Notepad. Note to backup the file for precaution.
  4. In notepad, search for this line ” step operation = “getvar” ” and delete the line and save the file.
  5. Now open the RSD lite software and load the edited (and saved) .XLM firmware.
  6. Switch off your phone, boot into bootloader mode and connect to the PC.
  7. Now click the Start the button in the RSD software. Once it’s flashed the firmware, disconnect your phone switch on. You’re on the stock version now. Relief!!!

  • Download CWM recovery image for Moto G from here.
  • Now recall the fast boot folder which you have worked earlier while unlocking bootloader and copy the recovery.img to the fast boot folder. 
  • Turn off and enter your Moto G to bootloader mode (boot phone by holding volume down and power buttons.)
  • Being in the bootloader/fastboot mode, connect your phone to computer with the help of data cable.
  • Now open a command prompt in the fastboot folder and execute the following command.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • After executing the above command, execute the below and press to reboot phone.

  • Download and extract Moto G root package [link] to a folder in your desktop.
  • Enter your device into bootloader mode (Turn off the phone then turn on with the ‘volume down’ button pressed) and connect to the computer.
  • Now open the root package folder on your computer and run “superboot-windows.bat” as administrator.
  • Done. You have unlocked Moto G bootloader and rooted so far.

Second:

How to Root Moto G on Windows using RootKit by ChainFire (Use this if your android version in 4.4.4 or above)

Proceed with this step only if everything stated in the above steps has come out correctly.
  • Download and extract Moto G root package [link] to a folder in your desktop
  • Unzip the ' CF-Auto-Root-xxx-xxx-xxx.zip ' file to a separate folder on your computer.
  • Run the " root-windows.bat " file & press the space bar.
  • Wait for a while for the process to finish & your device will reboot.

    To Unlock Bootloader of Moto G

    1. After installing all drivers mentioned above, connect your phone to computer via data cable. If any debugging prompt appears, allow it.
    2. Now reboot your phone in bootloader mode by holding down power and volume down buttons simultaneously for about 3-5 seconds.
    3. Now head on to official Motorola bootloader unlocking page [here] and register your phone there. Read the disclosures there.
    4. Being connected in the fastboot mode, open a command prompt in the fastboot folder  where you extract the fastboot(downloaded from above) by pressing shift key then right click. If you are using Windows XP or older versions, you may need to install this tool and open command prompt by right clicking on the fast boot folder.
    5. In the command window, type the following;
    $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data
    • The returned string will be used to retrieve your unlock key like this


      $ fastboot oem get_unlock_data

    • Now copy together the 5 lines of output into one continuous string without (bootloader) or white spaces. Your string may look like this.

    • Now paste the string to the box shown in 6th step in the unlocking page of Moto G. It may look like this. Then click on the blue button to know whether your device can be unlocked. If yes, a button will appear below the blue button. “Request unlock key” there followed by agreeing the terms and conditions.
